Bara Brith is a stable traditonal Welsh staple that remains one of the most popular cakes at our shop Siop y Pentre in Llanrhaeadr and of course online at WelshFood.co.uk.
This delicious cake - or tea bread - gets its name from the Welsh language:
Bara = bread
Brith = speckled
We sell many different variations as one bara brith differs to another!

Tan y Castell Bara Brith is a heavy dark moist “loaf”, and is best served with butter. It has a long shelf life + 1 month so is an excellent choice if you are putting together a hamper.

Henllan Bakery's Bara Brith is a lighter loaf with a short shelf life. It now comes ready sliced and can be enjoyed with butter or toasted with butter.

Their Bara Brith Cake is a delicious more highly spiced fruit cake with a longer life and is our best selling bara brith.

Last but not least is the Ty Hyll Ugly House Traditional Bara Brith which is just like a homemade old fashioned bara brith. It is very heavy and dense with fruit and tastes homemade. Yes this is the Ugly House near Betws y Coed you may have visited!! It is now a tearoom serving wonderful teas in the original building - very well worth a visit.
Bara Brith is such a staple and well loved Welsh Food it is also available as a flavour to biscuits and chocolates.
